Abstract
An apparatus for driving a laser diode (LD) used in an image display. The apparatus includes a signal converter which converts an input image signal into a digital image signal; first through Nth (where N is a positive integer greater than or equal to “1”) current output devices which output currents; a current output device selector which selects the first through Kth (where K is greater than or equal to “1” and smaller than or equal to N) current output devices among the first through Nth current output devices, so as to output a current corresponding to the digital image signal; and an LD unit which emits laser beams corresponding to the currents output from the first through Kth current output devices.

An apparatus for driving a laser diode used in an image display, the apparatus comprising:
- a signal converter which converts an input image signal into a digital image signal;
- first through Nth, where N is a positive integer greater than or equal to “1,” current output devices which output currents;
- a current output device selector which selects the first through Kth, where K is a positive integer greater than or equal to “1” and smaller than or equal to N, current output devices among the first through Nth current output devices, so as to output a current corresponding to the digital image signal;
- and
- a laser diode unit which emits laser beams corresponding to the currents output from the first through Kth current output devices.
