Abstract
A system and method are disclosed for filtering liquid using a filter platform that is not rigidly affixed to a container containing the liquid to be filtered. The platform may be buoyant so that as liquid flows from one side of the platform, through a filter, and then to the other side of the platform, the platform may move, thus reducing the volume of a container or portion of a container that holds the unfiltered liquid. Alternatively, the platform may be heavier than the liquid to be filtered, may be either set in place on a support structure or else set on top of unfiltered liquid and allowed to sink downward as liquid is filtered. The system may further comprise a flexible membrane that allows two sections of liquid to be separated, even while the platform is moveable.
Claims20
A device for holding at least one liquid filter, said device comprising:
- a filter platform comprising at least one hole,
- wherein said filter platform is not rigidly affixed to a container containing liquid to be filtered,
- wherein said filter platform is adapted to provide a barrier between unfiltered liquid and filtered liquid,
- wherein said hole is disposed to engage said filter, and
- wherein said filter provides a path for a liquid to flow from a first side of said filter platform to a second side of said filter platform
A filtering system comprising:
- means for holding one or more filters, wherein said means for holding comprises a buoyant, movable liquid barrier;
- and
- means for sealing a gap between said means for holding one or more filters and a container, wherein said means for sealing a gap is adapted to maintain a liquid-tight seal while said means for holding one or more filters moves within said container.
A method of filtering liquid comprising:
- coupling one or more replaceable filters to one or more holes in a filter platform;
- inserting said filter platform into a container;
- and
- inserting said liquid into said container above said filter platform.
A method for filtering liquid comprising:
- containing a first volume of liquid, which is at least partially surrounded by a second volume of liquid, with
- a filter platform at least partially beneath said first volume of liquid,
- a floating barrier on a surface of said first volume of liquid or said second volume of liquid, and
- a flexible membrane coupled to said filter platform and said floating barrier;
- and
- raising said filter platform.
A method for filtering liquid comprising:
- containing a first volume of liquid, which is at least partially surrounded by a second volume of liquid and buoyant in said second volume of liquid, with
- a barrier adapted to stay below a surface of said second volume of liquid,
- a filter platform above of said first volume of liquid, and
- a flexible membrane coupled to said filter platform and said barrier;
- and
- lowering said filter platform.
