Abstract
A system for controlling fluid flow to or from at least one cylinder of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system includes a rotary valve. A cylinder head having a valve chamber accommodates the rotary valve. The rotary valve is arranged to selectively open or close a flow opening in the cylinder head. A drive motor is coupled to the rotary valve to impart rotation thereto.
Claims32
A system for controlling fluid flow to or from at least one cylinder of an internal combustion engine, the system comprising:
- a rotary valve;
- a cylinder head having a valve chamber accommodating the rotary valve, the rotary valve being arranged to selectively open or close a flow opening in the cylinder head;
- and
- a drive motor coupled to the rotary valve to impart rotation thereto.
A method for controlling fluid flow to or from a cylinder of an internal combustion engine, the method comprising:
- imparting rotation to a rotary valve arranged in a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine by a drive motor coupled to the rotary valve;
- and
- selectively opening or closing a flow opening in the cylinder head, which flow opening is associated with the cylinder, by the rotation of the rotary valve.
