Abstract
A low power consumption catalytic gas sensor includes three beads. A trigger bead, which is smaller than either a sensing on a compensating bead can be monitored for the presence of a combustible gas. Where gas has been sensed, the sensing and compensating beads can be energized to establish a gas concentration.
Claims20
A multi-bead catalytic sensor comprising:
- a base;
- a gas sensing bead carried by the base;
- and
- a separate catalytic trigger bead displaced from the sensing bead.
1 more element
A gas detector comprising:
- a gas sensor having at least a catalyzed sensing bead, and a smaller catalyzed trigger bead;
- and
- control circuits, coupled to the beads, responsive to a gas indicating trigger signal from the trigger bead to energize the sensing bead.
A method comprising:
- establishing a sensing location for catalytically burning a combustible gas;
- establishing a compensating location absent burning gas;
- establishing a trigger location for catalytically burning the combustible gas;
- generating a signal indicative of burning the gas at the trigger location;
- responsive to the signal, coupling electrical energy to the sensing and compensating locations;
- and
- responsive to the coupled energy and to a concentration of the gas at the sensing location, generating a sensing signal with a parameter which varies in accordance with the concentration.
