Abstract
A method and system and related computer program products are described for identifying an object of service comprising the initial step of generating and storing a static composite identifier representing a state of the object of service. Then, whenever it is desired to identify the object of service, the steps are carried out of: generating a dynamic composite identifier representing a current state of the object of service; locating and retrieving the stored static composite identifier, and searching a database for a match with an object of service recorded therein using either the static or the dynamic composite identifiers, or both.
Claims15
A method for identifying an object of service comprising the step of generating and storing a static composite identifier representing a state of the object of service and, whenever it is desired to identify the object of service, the steps of:
- generating a dynamic composite identifier representing a current state of the object of service;
- locating and retrieving the stored static composite identifier;
- and
- searching a database for a match with an object of service recorded therein using either the static or the dynamic composite identifiers, or both.
A system for identifying an object of service comprising means for generating and storing a static composite identifier representing a state of the object of service and means invokable whenever it is desired to identify the object of service for:
- generating a dynamic composite identifier representing a current state of the object of service;
- locating and retrieving the stored static composite identifier;
- and
- searching a database for a match with an object of service recorded therein using either the static or the dynamic composite identifiers, or both.
A method for identifying an object of service comprising the steps of:
- providing a database of objects of service in a server and a first set of program code elements for searching the database using either a static at a point in time or a dynamic composite identifier representing a state of an object of service at a current point in time, or both;
- providing a second program code elements executable within the object of service for generating static and dynamic composite identifiers wherein the static and/or dynamic comprise, or are at least derived from, a set of parameters including both physical and human and/or network assigned parameters related to the object of service, and for locating and retrieving a previously stored static composite identifier;
- whenever it is desired to identify the object of service, using the second program code elements to locate and retrieve the stored static composite identifier or to generate the static composite identifier if it cannot be located, and to generate a dynamic composite identifier,
- transmitting the retrieved or generated static composite identifier and the generated dynamic composite identifier over a network, directly or indirectly, to the server;
- and
- at the server, using the first program code elements to search the database for a match with an object of service recorded therein using either the transmitted static or the dynamic composite identifiers, or both, and recording in the database the transmitted dynamic composite identifier in association with the identified object of service.
