To enable to measure a number of steps highly accurately by dispensing with an operation of selecting a measuring mode when the number of steps is measured in walking and in running. A detecting signal detected by a walking sensor is amplified and outputted by first amplifying means by way of charge-voltage converting means. When a detecting signal by way of only the first amplifying means of the first and the second amplifying means is inputted to an input of CPU, CPU determines that a measured person is running, sets a mask time period or the like for running and carries out a processing of calculating a number of steps based on the detecting signal. When the detecting signal by way of only the first amplifying means is not inputted to the input of CPU and a detecting signal by way of both of the first amplifying means and the second amplifying means is inputted to an input of CPU, CPU determines that the measured person is walking, sets the mask time period or the like for walking and carries out the processing of calculating the number of steps based on the detecting signal.
