Abstract
The present invention relates to a composition comprising factor VII or a factor VII-related polypeptide and thrombomodulin or a thrombomodulin-related polypeptide, and the use thereof for treating bleeding episodes.
Claims17
A pharmaceutical composition comprising (i) a combination of a an isolated factor VII and an isolated a thrombomodulin and (ii) one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients or carriers, wherein the combination results in a greater than additive increase in blood clot stability.
A kit of parts containing a treatment for bleeding episodes comprising a) an effective amount of a preparation of an isolated factor VII and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient in a first-unit dosage form;
- b) an effective amount of a preparation of an isolated thrombomodulin and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient in a second-unit dosage form;
- and c) a container suitable for containing a combined composition comprising the combination of a) and b), wherein the combination of the factor VII and the thrombomodulin in the combined composition results in a greater than additive increase in blood clot stability.
A method for treating bleeding episodes in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising (i) a combination of a an isolated factor VII and an isolated a thrombomodulin and (ii) one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients or carriers, wherein the combination results in a greater than additive increase in blood clot stability in an amount effective to treat bleedings.
A method for reducing clotting time in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising (i) a combination of a an isolated factor VII and an isolated a thrombomodulin and (ii) one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients or carriers, wherein the combination results in a greater than additive increase in blood clot stability in an amount effective to reduce clotting time.
A method to enhance haemostasis in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising (i) a combination of a an isolated factor VII and an isolated a thrombomodulin and (ii) one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients or carriers, wherein the combination results in a greater than additive increase in blood clot stability in an amount effective to enhance haemostasis.
A method for prolonging the clot lysis time in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising (i) a combination of a an isolated factor VII and an isolated a thrombomodulin and (ii) one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients or carriers, wherein the combination results in a greater than additive increase in blood clot stability in an amount effective to prolong the clot lysis time.
A method for increasing clot strength in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising (i) a combination of a an isolated factor VII and an isolated a thrombomodulin and (ii) one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients or carriers, wherein the combination results in a greater than additive increase in blood clot stability in an amount effective to increase clot strength.
