Fan with active magnetic bearing

A fan having an electronically commutated drive motor (52) for driving fan blades (26), which drive motor (52) comprises

• a stator (50);
• a rotor equipped with a shaft (34), which shaft (34) is radially journaled in non-contact fashion on the stator (50) using
• permanent magnets (38, 56;
• 40, 58) and is axially displaceable relative to the stator (50) and is drivingly connected to the rotor (22), which rotor is in turn drivingly connected to
• a fan wheel (25) whose interior defines
• a cylindrical air gap (57, 57″, 57′″) in which, during operation, a substantially radial magnetic flux (55′, 55″, 55′″) extends in a predetermined direction,
• a plunger coil (64) which extends into the cylindrical air gap (57, 57″, 57′″) and to which the stator (50) is mechanically connected, so that, upon an axial displacement of the shaft (34) relative to the stator (50), a relative location, of the plunger coil (64) with respect to the cylindrical air gap (57, 57″, 57′″), changes.
