Abstract
A multi-speed system configured to increase the speed or decrease the pedaling effort of a lever propelled bicycle. The multi-speed system is composed of a manual control device 70 mounted on the frame close to the riders hand placement on the handle bars and other connected components configured to change wheel rotation per pedal. It has the ability to transfer manual force to the transmission means to change propulsion speed and effort. Depressing its control lever 2 down will allow the rider to increase in speed and lifting its control lever 2 up would allow the rider to decrease pedaling effort.
Claims3
A lever propelled bike having a manual controlled multi-speed system providing the means to increase a riders speed or decrease a riders pedaling effort wherein the improvement comprises:
- a multi-speed system with right and left lever machines that are “L” shaped with the shorter side in the approximate vertical position and the longer side in the approximate horizontal position, when either lever is at its lowest rotated position;
- a multi-speed system wherein each said lever machine has its fulcrum near the upper end of its approximate vertical portion;
- a multi-speed system having a first member linear transmission means connected to the vertical portion of the right lever machine and a second member linear transmission means connected to the vertical portion of the left lever machine;
- a multi-speed system wherein each said linear transmission means has the ability to be moved close to or away from its member fulcrum by a manual control device mounted to the bicycle;
