Adding interactivity to artwork

A method of attributing behavior to one or more user interface elements in a user interface, wherein the one or more user interface elements are defined in a layered graphical representation specifying a plurality of graphical layers, the method comprising:

• designating a selection of the graphical layers as a state of the user interface, wherein the selection of the graphical layers defines the one or more user interface elements;
• setting one or more properties of the state of the user interface to specify an interaction rule associated with the state;
• displaying the state of the user interface using the designated selection of graphical layers from the layered graphical representation;
• detecting occurrence of an event defined in the interaction rule as associated with the displayed state of the user interface;
• and
• executing a behavior action defined in the interaction rule as associated with the detected occurrence of the event, responsive to the operation of detecting occurrence of the event.

A prototyping system for attributing behavior to one or more user interface elements in a user interface, wherein the one or more user interface elements are defined in a layered graphical representation specifying a plurality of graphical layers, the prototyping system comprising:

• a storage medium that stores a persistent datastore;
• a prototyping tool that designates a selection of the graphical layers as a state of the user interface, wherein the selection of the graphical layers defines the one or more user interface elements and sets one or more properties of the state of the user interface to specify an interaction rule associated with the state;
• and
• a processing unit that records the state of the user interface and the interaction rule in the persistent datastore.
