Abstract
Various technologies and techniques are disclosed that provide ways to position, size, and/or anchor page elements for display on varying output devices. A user can assign rendering specifications to both text and graphic elements. Rendering specifications include, but are not limited to width, height, anchor(s), and/or offset(s) to one, some, or all page elements. Page elements will appear in the positions and relationships to each other as specified in the source document.
Claims20
A method for controlling sizing and positioning of elements on a page comprising the steps of:
- receiving a request to display a particular document on a particular output device;
- retrieving at least one rendering specification for at least one element in the particular document, the rendering specification providing instructions for rendering the element on a dynamic page size, and the rendering specification being selected from the group consisting of a value representing a height, a width, an anchor point, and an offset for the element;
- and
- providing an output for displaying the document on the particular output device based on the retrieved rendering specification, wherein the element is displayed on the output device in the manner specified in the rendering specification.
A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for causing a computer to perform steps comprising:
- providing an application for adjusting at least one element in a document with respect to a dynamic page size, the application being operable to:
- retrieve a set of rendering instructions for displaying the at least one element in the document;
- adjust the element in the document according to the rendering instructions when applied to a particular output device;
- and
- provide output for displaying the document on the particular output device with the element adjusted according to the rendering instructions.
A method for sizing and positioning elements on a dynamic page size comprising the steps of:
- receiving input from a user to access a document having user-defined rendering specifications, the rendering specifications identifying how to adjust one or more elements in the document according to a dynamic page size;
- detecting a target output device;
- retrieving the rendering specifications for the document;
- and
- rendering the document on the target output device according to the rendering specifications.
