Prosthetic device utilizing electric vacuum pump

A prosthetic assembly, comprising:

• a prosthetic socket for receiving a residual limb;
• a universal adapter integrated into a distal end of said prosthetic socket;
• a vacuum passage in said universal adapter and a vacuum passage in said prosthetic socket, said vacuum passages cooperating to form a vacuum passageway for evacuation of air from said socket;
• an evacuation device comprising an electrically powered vacuum pump and a source of electrical energy contained within a housing that is located at said distal end of said prosthetic socket and secured to a bottom surface of said universal adapter;
• a vacuum passage in said housing, said vacuum passage aligned with said vacuum passageway through said universal adapter and said prosthetic socket when said evacuation device is properly installed to said universal adapter;
• and
• a microprocessor in communication with said vacuum pump;
• wherein said vacuum pump is connected to said vacuum passageway through said vacuum passage in said housing;
• and
• wherein, after installation to said universal adapter, said evacuation device is operative to evacuate an interior of said prosthetic socket by drawing air therefrom through said vacuum passages while a residual limb is located within said prosthetic socket.

A wireless control system for a prosthetic device having an electrically powered vacuum pump, comprising:

• a vacuum control assembly associated with an evacuation device, said evacuation device located on or in a prosthesis and further comprising:
• a power source,
• a microprocessor,
• a vacuum pump in communication with said microprocessor,
• a pressure sensor in communication with said microprocessor,
• a wireless transceiver in communication with said microprocessor,
• a regulator in communication with said microprocessor, said regulator having an enable pin, and
• a timing crystal in communication with said microprocessor,
• a hand held controller adapted for wireless communication with said vacuum control assembly and further comprising:
• a power source,
• a microprocessor,
• a wireless transceiver in communication with said microprocessor,
• a regulator in communication with said microprocessor, said regulator having an enable pin, and
• a timing crystal in communication with said microprocessor,
• wherein said hand held controller can be used to control said evacuation device via wireless communications with said vacuum control assembly.
