Abstract
A chisel system for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, according to which a module is provided that has one end connected to a handle. A cutting surface is formed at the other end of the module that cuts through the cartilage and condyle.
Claims20
A chisel system for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, the system comprising:
- a handle, a module having one end connected to the handle;
- and
- a cutting edge formed at the other end of the module, the cross section of the cutting edge being tapered inwardly towards its end to form a relatively sharp cutting surface that cuts through the cartilage and condyle.
A chisel system for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, the system comprising:
- a handle,
- a module having one end connected to the handle;
- and
- a series of cutting teeth formed at the other end of the module, the cutting teeth adapted to cut through the cartilage and condyle.
A chisel system for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, the system comprising:
- a handle,
- a module having one end connected to the handle;
- and
- a series of prongs formed at the other end of the module, each prong defining a cutting surface adapted to cut through the cartilage and condyle when the handle, and therefore the module, is rotated.
A chisel system for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, the system comprising:
- a handle,
- a module having one end connected to the handle;
- and
- the other end of the module extending at an angle to the axis of the module and forming a cutting surface that cuts through the cartilage and condyle.
A surgical procedure for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, the procedure comprising:
- forming a cutting surface on one end of a module;
- connecting the other end of the module to a handle to form a chisel;
- grasping the handle and engaging the cutting surface with the cartilage;
- applying manual force to cut through the cartilage and condyle to form a graft;
- removing the module from the handle;
- and
- pushing the harvested graft from the other end of the module.
A kit for harvesting an implantable graft from an area of a human having a cartilage overlying a condyle, the system comprising:
- a handle,
- a series of modules, each connectable at one end to the handle to form a chisel;
- and
- at least one cutting surface defined at the other end of each module that varies from the cutting surfaces of the other modules.
