A preformed wound shield includes a frame formed of one or more layers of suitable material and any suitable covering. Exudate absorbing or transporting material may also be one of two or more layers of material forming the frame.
Claims11
A shield for protecting and healing a wound having a generally planar surface comprising:
- a conformable frame having a preformed shape to circumscribe the wound and one or more internal layers;
- first adhesive layer securing the conformable frame around the wound;
- and
- one or more access ports through the conformable frame for insertion and removal of material from the enclosed space.

A shield for protecting and healing a wound having a generally planar surface comprising:
- a conformable frame having a preformed shape to circumscribe the wound, the conformable frame having an inner perimeter edge and an outer perimeter edge, the height of the conformable frame increasing from the inner perimeter edge to the outer perimeter edge;
- first adhesive layer securing the conformable frame around the wound.
A method of shielding a wound on a patient comprising the steps:
- selecting a preformed conformable frame to circumscribe a wound, the conformable frame having two or more layers oriented perpendicular to the wound surface and a cutaneous side and a superficial side;
- adhesively engaging the cutaneous side of the conformable frame to the patient with the conformable frame circumscribing the wound;
- and
- adhesively engaging a dressing to the superficial side of the conformable frame.
