Abstract
A device and method of locating the cervix and uterus is disclosed. A means opaque to radiation is inserted through the cervix into the uterus and fixed to the cervix. A method of organ visualization may then be used to locate the position of the device and hence the cervix and uterus. The device may remain fixed in place inside the cervix and uterus for an extended period of time, allowing these organs to be easily located on a frequent basis.
Claims20
A device for precisely locating the position of the cervix and uterus during imaging, comprising means opaque to radiation insertable in the cervix, and means for fixing said device with respect thereto.
A device for precisely locating the position of the cervix and uterus during imaging, comprising
- a sleeve, and
- a marker opaque to radiation held in place within the sleeve;
- wherein said device is adapted to be fixed to the cervix.
A method for locating the cervix and uterus, comprising
- fixing a device opaque to radiation through the cervix into the uterus, and
- using a method of organ visualization to determine the location of the cervix and uterus.
A method of treating cervical and uterine tumors using external radiation, comprising:
- inserting a device opaque to radiation through the cervix into the uterus,
- securely fastening the device to the cervix to serve as a locating marker relative to various tissues and organs in and around the cervix and uterus,
- visualizing the cervix and uterus by means of an imaging technique that locates the tumor relative to said marker, and
- impinging external radiation on said tumor.
