This invention relates to the treatment of hypertension, cardiac dysfunction or stroke by the administration of an estrogen receptor beta (ER&bgr;) selective agonist either as a single agent, or in combination with other agents.

The use of an ERβ agonist for the preparation of a medicament useful in the treatment of hypertension, cardiac dysfunction or stroke, in a mammal in need thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising an ERβ agonist, an antihypertensive agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
