Abstract
One embodiment of the present invention is a method for playing a portion of a media work which includes steps of: (a) playing the media work; (b) receiving input from a user; and (c) analyzing parameters to determine the portion of the media work to play; (d) altering at least a part of the portion; and (e) playing the portion.
Claims65
A system for use with a media player, the media player having a plurality of media player behavioral parameters having a plurality of current values, the plurality of media player behavioral parameters including a first behavioral parameter defining a current presentation rate of a digital media work, the system comprising:
- a first user interface to receive first user input specifying at least one update value specifying at least one alternate value of at least one of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters;
- a computer-readable medium tangibly storing at least one update value specification specifying the at least one update value;
- and
- player behavioral parameter update means, external to the media player, comprising:
- means for identifying a user-specified trigger event;
- and
- means for updating the at least one of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters based on the at least one update value and in response to the trigger event.
The system of claim A. 10, wherein the state machine comprises means for identifying a change in the state of the system based on the user-specified trigger event.
A system for use with a media player, the media player having a plurality of media player behavioral parameters having a plurality of current values, the plurality of media player behavioral parameters including a first behavioral parameter defining a current presentation rate of a digital media work, the system comprising:
- a computer-readable medium tangibly storing a plural set of at least one update value specification specifying at least one update value of at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters;
- means for selecting one of the pluralities of update value specifications;
- and
- player behavioral parameter update means, external to the media player, comprising:
- means for identifying a user-specified trigger event;
- and
- means for updating the at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters based on the selected plurality of update value specifications and in response to the trigger event.
A system for use with a media player, the media player having a plurality of media player behavioral parameters having a plurality of current values, the plurality of media player behavioral parameters including a first behavioral parameter defining a current presentation rate of a digital media work, the system comprising:
- a computer-readable medium tangibly storing a plurality of update value specifications specifying a plurality of update values of at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters, the plurality of update values including a first update value of the first behavioral parameter defining the current presentation rate;
- and
- player behavioral parameter update means comprising:
- means for identifying a user-specified trigger event;
- and
- means for updating the at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters based on the plurality of update value specifications and in response to the trigger event.
A method for use with a system, the system including a media player, the media player having a plurality of media player behavioral parameters having a plurality of current values, the plurality of media player behavioral parameters including a first behavioral parameter defining a current presentation rate of a digital media work, the method comprising:
- (A) receiving first user input through a first user interface, the first user input specifying at least one update value specifying at least one alternate value of at least one of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters;
- (B) tangibly storing in a computer-readable medium at least one update value specification specifying the at least one update value;
- and
- (C) at player behavioral parameter update means, external to the media player:
- (1) identifying a user-specified trigger event;
- and
- (2) updating the at least one of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters based on the at least one update value and in response to the trigger event.
A method for use with a system, the system including a media player, the media player having a plurality of media player behavioral parameters having a plurality of current values, the plurality of media player behavioral parameters including a first behavioral parameter defining a current presentation rate of a digital media work, the method comprising:
- (A) tangibly storing in a computer-readable medium a plural set of at least one update value specification specifying at least one update value of at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters;
- (B) selecting one of the pluralities of update value specifications;
- and
- (C) at player behavioral parameter update means, external to the media player:
- (1) identifying a user-specified trigger event;
- and
- (2) updating the at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters based on the selected plurality of update value specifications and in response to the trigger event.
A method for use with a system, the system including a media player, the media player having a plurality of media player behavioral parameters having a plurality of current values, the plurality of media player behavioral parameters including a first behavioral parameter defining a current presentation rate of a digital media work, the method comprising:
- (A) tangibly storing in a computer-readable medium a plurality of update value specifications specifying a plurality of update values of at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters, the plurality of update values including a first update value of the first behavioral parameter defining the current presentation rate;
- and
- (B) at player behavioral parameter update means:
- (1) identifying a user-specified trigger event;
- and
- (2) updating the at least some of the plurality of media player behavioral parameters based on the plurality of update value specifications and in response to the trigger event.
