Videophone and method for a video call

A telecommunications system comprising:

• a first network;
• an originating node in communication with the first network which sends a packet having an address of the originating node relative to the first network onto the first network;
• a second network different than the first network;
• an originating gateway in communication with the first network and the second network having an address relative to the first network and an address relative to the second network which receives the packet from the first network, stores the address of the originating node, places the address of the originating gateway relative to the second network with the packet and sends the packet to the second network;
• and
• a terminating node having an address relative to the second network in communication with the second network which receives the packet, saves the address of the originating gateway relative to the second network and sends a return packet to the originating gateway with the address of the terminating node, the originating gateway receives the return packet from the terminating node, saves the address of the terminating node, places the address of the originating gateway relative to the first network with the return packet and sends the return packet onto the first network, the originating node receives the return packet and stores the address of the originating gateway relative to the first address.

A telecommunications system comprising:

• a first network;
• an originating node in communication with the first network which sends a packet having an address of the originating node relative to the first network onto the first network;
• a second network different than the first network;
• an originating gateway in communication with the first network and the second network having an address relative to the first network and an address relative to the second network which receives the packet from the first network, stores the address of the originating node, places the address of the originating gateway relative to the second network with the packet and sends the packet to the second network;
• a third network different than the second network;
• a terminating gateway in communication with the second network and the third network having an address relative to the third network and an address relative to the second network which receives the packet from the second network, stores the address of the originating gateway, places the address of the terminating gateway relative to the third network with the packet and sends the packet to the third network;
• and
• a terminating node having an address relative to the third network in communication with the third network which receives the packet, saves the address of the terminating gateway relative to the third network and sends a return packet to the terminating gateway with the address of the terminating node, the terminating gateway receives the return packet from the terminating node, saves the address of the terminating node, places the address of the terminating gateway relative to the second network with the return packet and sends the return packet onto the second network, the originating gateway receives the return packet from the terminating gateway, saves the address of the terminating gateway, places the address of the originating gateway relative to the first network with the return packet and sends the return packet onto the first network, the originating node receives the return packet and stores the address of the originating gateway relative to the first address.

A method for sending a packet from an originating node to a terminating node comprising the steps of:

• sending a packet having an address of the originating node relative to a first network onto the first network from the originating node;
• receiving the packet from the first network at an originating gateway in communication with the first network and a second network, storing the address of the originating node with the originating gateway having an address relative to the first network and an address relative to the second network, placing the address of the originating gateway relative to the second network with the packet, and sending the packet to the second network;
• and
• receiving the packet from the second network at the terminating node, saving the address of the originating gateway relative to the second network, sending a return packet from the terminating node to the originating gateway with the address of the terminating node;
• receiving at the originating gateway the return packet from the terminating node, saving the address of the terminating node at the originating gateway, placing the address of the originating gateway relative to the first network with the return packet and sending the return packet onto the first by the originating gateway;
• and
• receiving the return packet at the originating node and storing the address of the originating gateway relative to the first network at the originating node, the originating gateway receives the return packet from the terminating node, saves the address of the terminating node, places the address of the originating gateway relative to the first network with the return packet and sends the return packet onto the first network, the originating node receives the return packet and stores the address of the originating gateway relative to the first address.
