Abstract
A surgical stent made of biocompatible material for implantation in human tissue to enable blood and nutrients to flow from an area of vascular tissue to an area of tissue with little or no vasculature.
Claims112
A method for facilitating healing of a tissue defect residing in an area of tissue, comprising:
- providing a stent comprising an elongate body having a first end, a second end, and a length, said elongate body configured to allow passage of fluid therethrough;
- inserting the stent into the area of tissue;
- and
- positioning the stent so that a vascular area of tissue is accessible by the stent and the second end of the stent terminates adjacent to the tissue defect, whereby biological material from the vascular area of tissue travels through the stent to the tissue defect to facilitate healing the tissue defect.
1 more element
A method for facilitating healing of a tissue defect residing in an area of tissue, comprising:
- providing a stent comprising an elongate body having a first end and a second end, said elongate body configured to allow passage of fluid therethrough;
- separating the tissue to allow insertion of the stent into the separated tissue without removing or ablating tissue;
- inserting the stent into the separated tissue;
- and
- positioning the stent so that a vascular area of tissue is accessible by the stent.
2 more elements
A stent, comprising:
- an elongate body formed of a bioabsorbable material, said elongate body having a first end, a second end, an exterior surface and a length, said elongate body configured to allow passage of fluid therethrough, said elongate body formed of a material of sufficient rigidity so that the elongate body is at least as stiff as meniscal tissue.
A stent, comprising:
- an elongate body formed of a bioabsorbable material, said elongate body having a first end, a second end, an exterior surface and a length, said elongate body configured to allow passage of fluid therethrough;
- and
- securing means for securing said elongate body in an area of tissue.
A stent, comprising:
- an elongate body formed of a bioabsorbable material, said elongate body having a first end, a second end, an exterior surface and a length, said elongate body configured to allow passage of fluid therethrough;
- and
- a fastener operable to secure said elongate body in an area of tissue.
A stent, comprising:
- an elongate body formed of a biocompatible material, said elongate body having an outer diameter, a first end, a second end and a length, the outer diameter varying over the length of the elongate body from a larger value at the first end of the elongate body to a smaller value at the second end of the elongate body, said elongate body configured to allow passage of fluid therethrough.
A stent, comprising:
- an elongate body formed of a bioabsorbable material, said elongate body comprising:
- a first end;
- a second end;
- an exterior surface, said elongate body having an outer diameter and a length, said elongate body comprising a hollow tube which is open at both the first end and the second end of the elongate body to define end apertures, whereby said elongate body allows passage of fluid therethrough, said elongate body formed of a material of sufficient rigidity so that the elongate body is at least as stiff as meniscal tissue, a wall forming the hollow tube;
- securing means for securing said elongate body in an area of tissue;
- an interior surface defining said hollow tube, said interior surface defining a non-circular cross-section;
- said outer diameter of said elongate body varying over the length of the elongate body from a larger value at the first end of the elongate body to a smaller value at the second end of the elongate body;
- and
- a rib extending from said exterior surface of said elongate body, said rib forming a pitch thread about said exterior surface of said elongate body.
