Method and apparatus for decoding paging message in wireless communication system

A method of decoding a paging message transmitted in four bursts in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving and equalizing only the first burst among the four bursts of a transmitted paging message;
• comparing the equalized first burst with each of a plurality of reference paging messages;
• selecting a maximum value from among comparison result values;
• determining whether the maximum value corresponds to a no mobile ID paging message;
• and
• determining whether to receive a second burst through a fourth burst of the paging message based on a result of the determination.

A method of decoding a paging message transmitted in four bursts in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving and equalizing the first burst of a transmitted paging message;
• determining whether the equalized first burst corresponds to a no mobile ID paging message;
• and
• determining whether to receive a second burst through a fourth burst of the paging message based on a result of the determination.

A mobile device comprising:

• a receiver configured to selectively receive only the first burst among four bursts of a paging message in response to a control signal;
• an equalizer configured to equalize the one burst;
• and
• a controller configured to compare the equalized first burst with a reference paging message, and to compare the first comparison result value obtained from the first comparison with a threshold value, and generating the control signal for controlling the reception of second through fourth bursts of the paging message based on a result of comparing the first comparison result value with the threshold value.

A mobile device comprising:

• a receiver configured to selectively receive only a first one burst among four bursts of a paging message in response to a control signal;
• an equalizer configured to equalize the first burst;
• and
• a controller configured to compare the equalized first burst with each of a plurality of reference paging messages, selecting a maximum value from among the plurality of comparison result values obtained from the comparisons.

A method of receiving a message that comprises encoded bits interleaved over N transmission bursts, wherein N is greater than 1, the method comprising:

• receiving a first transmission burst;
• decoding only the first transmission bursts to generate first decoded data;
• determining the extent that the first decoded data is similar to each of a plurality of previously stored transmission bursts;
• and inhibiting reception of remaining transmission bursts of the message if the first decoded data is substantially similar to one of the previously stored transmission bursts, but if otherwise then receiving a second transmission burst.
