Method and apparatus for variable accuracy inter-picture timing specification for digital video encoding

A computer readable medium storing sets of instructions that are executable by one or more processors, the sets of instructions comprising a set of instructions for:

• a. specifying a plurality of video pictures;
• b. specifying at least one display order value for the plurality of video pictures, said display order value indicative of a relationship of a first particular video picture with reference to a second particular video picture;
• and
• c. storing the plurality of video pictures and the display order value into the bitstream.

A computer readable medium storing sets of instructions that are executable by one or more processors, the sets of instructions comprising a set of instructions for:

• a. specifying a plurality of video pictures;
• b. specifying at least one display order value for the plurality of video pictures, said display order value is for computing at least motion vector for one or more video pictures;
• and
• c. storing the plurality of video pictures and the display order value into the bitstream.

A computer readable medium storing sets of instructions that are executable by one or more processors, the sets of instructions comprising a set of instructions for:

• a. specifying a plurality of video pictures;
• b. specifying at least one display order value for the plurality of video pictures;

• c. storing the plurality of video pictures and the display order value into the bitstream, said display order value is stored using one of variable length coding.
