Abstract
A contact tip for a welding gun having a central passage for a welding wire moving in a given direction toward a workpiece and receiving a welding signal by contact of the wire with the tip. The passage has an innermost end, an outermost exit end and a length of at least 1.5 inches and an opening in the contact tip intersects the passage so a pressure block slidably mounted in the opening is biased toward the wire by a spring around the contact tip urging the block against the wire. This tip is dimensioned and constructed to perform pulse welding by a relatively ductile aluminum wire.
Claims20
A contact tip for a welding gun, said tip having a central passage for a welding wire moving in a given direction toward a workpiece and receiving a welding signal by contact of said wire with said tip, said passage having an innermost end, an outermost exit end and a length of at least 1.5 inches;
- a ceramic block for urging the welding wire moving through the central passage against said contact tip, said block being generally rectangular in shape with a width less than either side of said rectangle to define two generally parallel contact edges with at least one of said edges having a tapered upper and lower end providing a camming surface for said wire as it passes through said passage of said contact tip;
- and a fixed contact point for the contact between the wire and the tip, the fixed contact point being an annular rim extending into said passage at the outermost exit end.
A contact tip for pulse welding with an aluminum welding wire by a welding gun, said tip having a central passage with a length of over 1.5 inches for the aluminum welding wire to move in a given direction toward a workpiece and for receiving a welding signal by contact of said aluminum welding wire with said tip, and an exit end and an element at a given location of said passage to assure a specific point of electrical contact.
A contact tip for pulse welding with an aluminum welding wire by a welding gun, said tip having a central passage with a length of over 1.5 inches for the aluminum welding wire to move in a given direction toward a workpiece and for receiving a welding signal by contact of said aluminum welding wire with said tip, and an exit end at which an element is provided to assure a specific point of electrical contact.
