Provided are animal containment systems and components, including single-use animal containment cages and modular rack units. Also provided are methods for assembling and using components of the animal containment systems.

A process for cleansing a rack unit assembled from rack unit modules in a rodent containment system, which comprises:
- disconnecting rack unit modules in a rodent containment system, washing each rack unit module, and assembling the cleansed rack unit by connecting cleansed rack modules.
