Offset printing groups of a printing press for newspaper printing and a web-fed rotary printing press

An offset printing group of a printing press for newspaper printing comprising:

• a forme cylinder;
• a transfer cylinder having a length in an axial direction of said transfer cylinder of at least six standing newspaper pages and having a shell surface;
• and
• at least first and second printing blankets arranged side-by-side in said axial direction of said transfer cylinder shell surface, at least one of said first and second printing blankets having a width in said axial direction of three standing newspaper pages.

A web fed rotary printing press with an offset printing group comprising:

• a forme cylinder in said offset printing group;
• a transfer cylinder in said offset printing group and having a length in an axial direction of a width of at least six standing newspaper pages;
• first and second printing blankets arranged side-by-side in said axial direction on a shell surface of said transfer cylinder, each of said first and second printing blankets having a width in said axial direction of three standing newspaper pages;
• and
• a longitudinal web cutting device arranged after, in a direction of web travel, said offset printing group and having two cutters which are movable in said axial direction and are usable to cut a web into three partial webs.

A method for using an offset printing group of a printing press for newspaper printing including:

• providing at least one forme cylinder and at least one transfer cylinder in said offset printing group;
• providing said transfer cylinder having a length in an axial direction of said transfer cylinder of a width of at least six standing newspaper pages;
• providing two printing blankets on said transfer cylinder and arranging said two printing blankets side-by-side in said axial direction of said transfer cylinder;
• providing each of said two printing blankets on said transfer cylinder having a length in said axial direction of said transfer cylinder of three of said standing newspaper pages;
• operating said printing unit in a first mode for printing a first web, having a first web width in a first printing page format, with a first number of printed pages;
• and
• operating said printing unit in a second mode for printing a second web, having a second web width less than said first web width, in a second printing page format with a second number of printing pages, said first number of said printed pages in said first printing page format being the same as said second number of pages in said second printing page format.
