Abstract
According to an aspect of the present invention, medical articles are provided, which are at least partially biodegradable. The medical articles comprise (a) biodegradable polymers that produce acidic molecules upon degradation; and (b) acid neutralizing cationic species.

A medical article comprising (a) a polymer that produces acidic molecules upon degradation within a subject;
- and (b) an acid neutralizing cationic species, wherein said medical article comprises a pharmaceutically effective amount of a therapeutic agent, which is not electrostatically bound to or entrapped within said cationic species and which is released from said article within said subject, or wherein said medical article does not comprise an effective amount of a therapeutic agent.
