An isolated strain of lactic acid bacteria comprising an effective amount of probiotic activity in pets, wherein the isolated strain is capable of surviving and colonizing in a gastrointestinal tract of pets and wherein the isolated strain is selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2581 (CNCM I-2448), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2592 (CNCM I-2450), Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC2583 (CNCM I-2449), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2603 (CNCM I-2451), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2613 (CNCM I-2452), Lactobacillus acidophilus NCC2628 (CNCM I-2453), Enterococcus faecium SF 68 (NCIMB 10415) and combinations thereof.
A method of preparing a composition for maintaining or improving pet health, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing an isolated strain of lactic acid bacteria that has an effective amount of probiotic activity in pets, wherein the isolated strain is selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2581 (CNCM I-2448), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2592 (CNCM I-2450), Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC2583 (CNCM I-2449), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2603 (CNCM I-2451), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2613 (CNCM I-2452), Lactobacillus acidophilus NCC2628 (CNCM I-2453), Enterococcus faecium SF 68 (NCIMB 10415) and combinations thereof;
- and
- processing the isolated strain to form the composition.
A method of maintaining or improving health of a gastrointestinal tract of a pet, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pet food composition to the pet wherein the pet food composition comprises an isolated strain of lactic acid bacteria having an effective amount of probiotic activity and is capable of colonizing or surviving in the gastrointestinal tract, wherein the isolated strain is selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2581 (CNCM I-2448), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2592 (CNCM I-2450), Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC2583 (CNCM I-2449), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2603 (CNCM I-2451), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2613 (CNCM I-2452), Lactobacillus acidophilus NCC2628 (CNCM I-2453), Enterococcus faecium SF 68 (NCIMB 10415) and combinations thereof.
A method for maintaining or improving health of skin and/or coat of a pet, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pet food composition to the pet wherein the pet food composition comprises an isolated strain of lactic acid bacteria having an effective amount of probiotic activity and is capable of colonizing or surviving in a gastrointestinal tract of the pet, wherein the isolated strain is selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2581 (CNCM I-2448), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2592 (CNCM I-2450), Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC2583 (CNCM I-2449), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2603 (CNCM I-2451), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2613 (CNCM I-2452), Lactobacillus acidophilus NCC2628 (CNCM I-2453), Enterococcus faecium SF 68 (NCIMB 10415) and combinations thereof.
A method for regulating an immune system of a pet, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pet food composition to the pet wherein the pet food composition comprises an isolated strain of lactic acid bacteria having an effective amount of probiotic activity and is capable of colonizing or surviving in the gastrointestinal tract of the pet, wherein the isolated strain is selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2581 (CNCM I-2448), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2592 (CNCM I-2450), Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC2583 (CNCM I-2449), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2603 (CNCM I-2451), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2613 (CNCM I-2452), Lactobacillus acidophilus NCC2628 (CNCM I-2453), Enterococcus faecium SF 68 (NCIMB 10415) and combinations thereof.
A method for ameliorating or reducing effects of aging in a pet, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pet food composition to the pet wherein the pet food composition comprises an isolated strain of lactic acid bacteria having an effective amount of probiotic activity and is capable of colonizing or surviving in a gastrointestinal tract of the pet, wherein the isolated strain is selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2581 (CNCM I-2448), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2592 (CNCM I-2450), Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC2583 (CNCM I-2449), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2603 (CNCM I-2451), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2613 (CNCM I-2452), Lactobacillus acidophilus NCC2628 (CNCM I-2453), Enterococcus faecium SF 68 (NCIMB 10415) and combinations thereof.
A method for treatment and/or prophylaxis of disorders associated with colonization of a gastrointestinal tract of a pet by pathogenic micro-organisms, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pet food composition to the pet wherein the pet food composition comprises an isolated strain of lactic acid bacteria having an effective amount of probiotic activity and is capable of colonizing or surviving in the gastrointestinal tract, wherein the isolated strain is selected from the group consisting of Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2581 (CNCM I-2448), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2592 (CNCM I-2450), Lactobacillus rhamnosus NCC2583 (CNCM I-2449), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2603 (CNCM I-2451), Lactobacillus reuteri NCC2613 (CNCM I-2452), Lactobacillus acidophilus NCC2628 (CNCM I-2453), Enterococcus faecium SF 68 (NCIMB 10415) and combinations thereof.
