Abstract
Bonding geometries are disclosed between permanent magnets and steel portions of magnetic assemblies. When employed in permanent magnet motors, this particular bonding construction reduces or even eliminates the loosening of permanent magnets inside of electric motors. The bonding geometry consists of interlocking protrusions and voids at the bonding interface. A bonding agent is employed that may be filled with finely divided iron or other magnetic material. The result is a strong bond between the permanent magnet and steel assembly portions with virtually no loss in overall magnetic properties.
Claims18
A permanent magnet bonding construction for efficient conduction of magnetic flux comprising:
- a high magnetic permeability first bonding surface;
- a permanent magnet second bonding surface;
- a bonding agent such as epoxy;
- said high magnetic permeability first bonding surface having high magnetic permeability protrusions extending in an outward direction toward said permanent magnet second bonding surface and;
- said permanent magnet second bonding surface having holes;
- said high magnetic permeability first bonding surface having magnetic contact with said bonding agent and;
- said bonding agent having contact with said holes of said permanent magnet second bonding surface and;
- wherein said high magnetic permeability protrusions extending outward from said high magnetic permeability first bonding surface extend into said holes of said permanent magnet second bonding surface.
A permanent magnet bonding construction for efficient conduction of magnetic flux comprising:
