Abstract
Embodiments relate to a communication system comprising a call handler arranged to process channel signalling received from a communication network; a workload controller comprising means to determine the workload of at least one processing resource of the communication system; wherein the call handler comprises means to block establishment of at least one channel in response to the workload of the at least one processing resource.

A communication system comprising a call handler arranged to process incoming call set up signalling received from a communication network;
- a workload controller comprising means to determine the workload of at least one processing resource accessible by the communication system;
- wherein the call handler comprises means to influence blocking establishment of at least one channel of the communication system in response to the determined load of the at least one processing resource.
An interactive voice response system for providing at least a selectable service of a plurality of services via respective voice applications;
- a workload controller arranged to determine the workload of at least one voice application of the plurality of voice applications and to control the establishment of call connections to the interactive voice response system in response to the determined workload.
A method for influencing the workload of a communication system;
- the method comprising the steps of receiving an indication of a current workload of at least one processing resource;
- and blocking a request received from a communication network to establish at least one channel of the communication system in response to that indication.
