Abstract
Sweeping through the code development options of a code development command allows diagnosis of a failure resulting from execution of the code development command on a given code. Successively modifying the code development command, such as successively removing code development options, automatically allows efficient examination of a failure. Executing each modified version of the code development command and recording results of the executions generates information that can expeditiously identify correspondence between a failure and one or more of the code development options.

A failure analysis tool that successively modifies a failed code development command, which results in a failure when executed on a given code, and that records results of execution of each modified version of the failed code development command, wherein the code development command includes a set of one or more code development options.
A method of diagnosing failure resulting from execution of a code development command on a given code, the method comprising:
- deriving a plurality of code development commands from the code development command;
- and
- recording results of executing the derived plurality of code development commands on the given code for diagnosis of the failure with respect to at least the failed code development command.
An apparatus comprising:
- a processor unit;
- means for sweeping through a set of code development options to diagnose a failure that results when the set of code development options are collectively executed on a given code.
A computer program product encoded on one or more machine-readable media, the computer program product comprising:
- an encoding indicating those of a set code development options that successfully execute on a code to generate an executable representation of the code,
- wherein execution of the set of code development options on the code results in a failure.
