Software modeling system and method

A method of modeling a software application to be used in an environment, said method comprising:

• creating an environmental model comprising a first set of attributes of the environment, each of the first set of attributes having a declaration;
• creating a behavioral model to describe behavior of the software application at a boundary of the software application and the environment, the behavioral model comprising a second set of attributes, which includes a portion of the first set of attributes, each of the second set of attributes having at least one of a declaration and function;
• creating a design model comprising a first decomposition of the second set of attributes into a first plurality of groups;
• and
• creating a run-time model comprising a second decomposition of the second set of attributes into a second plurality of groups, the run-time model being operable to record the decomposition of the software application into run-time components.

A medium having computer readable instructions stored thereon, the computer readable instructions being capable of instructing a computer to enable a user to model a software application to be used in an environment, the computer readable instructions being capable of instructing the computer to perform the method comprising:

• creating an environmental model comprising a first set of attributes of the environment, each of the first set of attributes having a declaration;
• creating a behavioral model to describe behavior of the software application at a boundary of the software application and the environment, the behavioral model comprising a second set of attributes, which includes a portion of the first set of attributes, each of the second set of attributes having at least one of a declaration and function;
• creating a design model comprising a first decomposition of the second set of attributes into a first plurality of groups;
• and
• creating a run-time model comprising a second decomposition of the second set of attributes into a second plurality of groups, the run-time model being operable to record the decomposition of the software application into run-time components.

A signal having computer readable instructions therein, the computer readable instructions being capable of instructing a computer to enable a user to model a software application to be used in an environment, the computer readable instructions being capable of instructing the computer to perform the method comprising:

• creating an environmental model comprising a first set of attributes of the environment, each of the first set of attributes having a declaration;
• creating a behavioral model to describe behavior of the software application at a boundary of the software application and the environment, the behavioral model comprising a second set of attributes, which includes a portion of the first set of attributes, each of the second set of attributes having at least one of a declaration and function;
• creating a design model comprising a first decomposition of the second set of attributes into a first plurality of groups;
• and
• creating a run-time model comprising a second decomposition of the second set of attributes into a second plurality of groups, the run-time model being operable to record the decomposition of the software application into run-time components.

A method of developing software, said method comprising:

• arranging a first plurality of attributes, each of which requires a respective input, in a first list;
• arranging a second plurality of attributes, each of which requires a respective output, in a second list;
• arranging a third plurality of attributes, each of which provides a respective input, in a third list;
• and
• arranging a fourth plurality of attributes, each of which provides a respective output, in a fourth list.
