Abstract
A method and system for tracing program execution in field programmable gate arrays and other suitable programmable logic devices is described.
Claims20
A method for setting up a test instrument to perform measurements on a microprocessor, the method comprising:
- determining a number of address signals required to fully represent a memory space occupied by a plurality of instructions;
- determining a number of address signals required to fully represent a memory space occupied by data;
- selecting address signals to fully represent the memory space occupied by the instructions, or the data, or both;
- and
- entering into the test instrument an address space occupied by the instructions and the data.

A method for setting up a test instrument to perform measurements on a microprocessor, the method comprising:
- selecting a subset of signals, wherein the subset of signals includes only signals associated with the microprocessor;
- and selecting microprocessor trace signals from the subset of signals based on a number of pins allocated.
A dynamic probe system, comprising:
- a testing device;
- a field programmable gate array having a microprocessor;
- trace pins adapted to connect the testing device to the field programmable gate array;
- and
- a microprocessor trace core configured to select microprocessor trace signals from a subset of signals, which includes only signals associated with the microprocessor.
