Abstract
Articles and associated methods and systems relate to selecting read interleaving policies independently of selecting write interleaving policies. In various implementations, the selection may be static or dynamic during operation. In implementations that dynamically select read interleaving policies and write interleaving policies, the selection may be based on various operating conditions, such as temperature, power source, battery voltage, and operating mode. Examples of operating modes may include (1) reading or writing to flash memory when connected to an external power source, (2) reading from flash memory when powered by portable power source (e.g., battery), and (3) writing to flash memory when powered by a portable power source.
Claims26
A system for processing data using interleaved memory, the system comprising:
- a power source;
- a plurality of memory elements operatively coupled to the power source;
- a memory controller to selectively control an interleaving ratio for accesses of the plurality of memory elements;
- and,
- a processor to receive instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to perform operations to identify the interleaving ratio to the memory controller, the operations comprising:
- receiving a request to access the memory elements;
- and
- controlling a peak current drawn from the power source by the memory to process the request by selecting an interleaving ratio at which to perform the received access request.
A method of selecting an interleaving policy for accessing a flash memory configured to store interleaved data, the method comprising:
- receiving a request to read from an interleaved flash memory;
- identifying a read interleaving ratio for reading from the flash memory based on a first set of criteria;
- receiving a request to write to the flash memory;
- and, identifying a write interleaving ratio for writing to the flash memory based on a second set of criteria, wherein the identified read and write interleaving ratios differ.
An article of manufacture comprising machine-readable instructions that, when executed, cause operations to be performed, the operations comprising:
- receiving a request to access memory;
- identifying an interleaving policy for performing the requested access by selecting from a read interleaving policy based on a first set of criteria or a write interleaving policy based on a second set of criteria, the first and second sets of criteria comprising at least one criterion that differs in at least one operating condition;
- and,
- sending a signal to perform the requested memory access using the identified interleaving policy.
