Abstract
Pharmaceutical compositions and methods are described comprising at least a parathyroid hormone peptide (PTH) preferably PTH1-34 and one or more mucosal delivery-enhancing agents for enhanced nasal mucosal delivery of PTH, for treating or preventing osteoporosis or osteopenia in a mammalian subject, preferably a human.
Claims8
A pharmaceutical aerosol device comprising:
- a. a composition comprising an aqueous solution comprising PTH peptide at a concentration sufficient to produce therapeutically effective plasma concentrations;
- b. a container into which the composition is placed;
- and
- c. an actuator fluidly connected to the container adapted to produce an aerosol which sprays out of a tip of said actuator when actuated, wherein the aerosol has a spray pattern ellipticity ratio of between 1.00 and 1.40 when measured at a height of between 0.5 cm and 10 cm distance from the actuator tip.

A pharmaceutical aerosol device comprising:
- a. a composition comprising an aqueous solution comprising PTH peptide present in a container;
- and
- b. an actuator fluidly connected to said container adapted to produce an aerosol of the composition through a tip of the actuator, wherein the aerosol has spray pattern major and minor axes of between 10 and 50 mm when measured at a height of between 0.5 cm and 10 cm distance from the actuator tip.
A pharmaceutical aerosol device comprising:
- a. an aqueous solution of a PTH peptide at a concentration sufficient to produce therapeutically effective plasma concentrations contained within a container;
- and
- b. an actuator fluidly connected to the container able to produce an aerosol of said solution upon actuation, wherein the aerosol is comprised of droplets of the PTH solution and less than 10% of the droplets are smaller than 10 microns in size.
A pharmaceutical aerosol device comprising:
- a. an aqueous solution formulation of a PTH peptide in a container;
- and
- b. an actuator fluidly connected to the container, wherein upon actuation an aerosol of said solution is produced through a tip of the actuator, wherein the aerosol is comprised of droplets of the solution, wherein the droplets are between 25 and 700 microns in size.
