Claims6
A method for predicting or diagnosing sepsis or an acute infectious inflammatory response in a patient, comprising:
- obtaining a fluid sample from the patient;
- testing the fluid sample for the presence of a neutrophil-derived CAP37 protein;
- and
- concluding that the patient has or is at risk for sepsis or an acute infectious inflammatory response when the neutrophil-derived CAP37 protein is detected in the fluid sample.
A method for distinguishing between an acute non-infectious inflammatory response and an acute infectious inflammatory response in a patient, comprising:
- obtaining a fluid sample from the patient having an acute inflammatory response;
- testing the fluid sample for the presence of a neutrophil-derived CAP37 protein;
- and
- concluding that the acute inflammatory response in the patient is due to a bacterial infection when the neutrophil-derived CAP37 protein is detected in the fluid sample.
