Abstract
The invention relates to methods for coating objects with hydrophobins. Provided is a method for providing the surface of an object with a hydrophobin coating, comprising contacting at least a part of an object with a hydrophobin-containing solution to form a hydrophobin layer on the surface of the object and exposing the layer to a pH below 7, preferably below 4, more preferably below 2, optionally in the presence of a detergent. Contacting can be performed at around room temperature and the hydrophobin-containing solution can be a supernatant of a culture medium of an organism that secretes a hydrophobin.

A method for providing the surface of an object with a hydrophobin layer, the method comprising:
- contacting at least a part of the object with a hydrophobin-containing solution to form a hydrophobin layer on the surface of the object, and
- exposing the hydrophobin layer to a pH below 7.
A method for providing the surface of an object with a layer of a hydrophobin, the method comprising:
- contacting an object with a hydrophobin-containing solution, wherein the hydrophobin-containing solution comprises hydrophobin that has been treated with performic acid.
A method for optimizing the conditions for providing the surface of an object with a hydrophobin layer by contacting at least part of the surface with a hydrophobin-containing solution at room temperature, the method comprising:
- determining the effect of at least two parameters on the formation of a hydrophobin layer in the surface of the object wherein the parameters are selected from the group consisting of pH, incubation time, concentration of hydrophobin in the hydrophobin-containing solution and presence of a buffer in the solution.
A culture medium for culturing a hydrophobin-producing organism, comprising a detergent.
A method for providing an object with a hydrophobic layer comprising:
- using a performic acid-treated hydrophobin to provide the object with the hydrophobic layer.
A method for preventing assembly of hydrophobin in a hydrophobin-containing solution, said method comprising:
- including a detergent in the hydrophobin-containing solution
- so as to prevent assembly of hydrophobin in the hydrophobin-containing solution.
