Abstract
The present invention relates to human PGF polypeptides and DNA (RNA) encoding such polypeptides. Also provided is a procedure for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques, and antibodies and antagonist/inhibitors against such polypeptides. Also provided are methods of using such polypeptides therapeutically for treating prostate cancer, to promote tissue regeneration and to facilitate wound healing. Also provided is a diagnostic assay to detect prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

An isolated polynucleotide selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide having the deduced amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 2 or a fragment, analog or derivative of said polypeptide;
- and
- (b) a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence encoded by the cDNA contained in ATCC™ Deposit No. 75902 or a fragment, analog or derivative of said polypeptide.
A polypeptide selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a polypeptide having the deduced amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 2 and fragments, analogs and derivatives thereof;
- and
- (b) a polypeptide encoded by the cDNA of ATCC™ Deposit No. 75902 and fragments, analogs and derivatives of said polypeptide.
A process for identifying compounds active as agonists to PGF comprising:
- (a) combining a compound to be screened, and a reaction mixture containing cells under conditions where the cells are normally stimulated by PGF, said reaction mixture containing a label incorporated in to the cells as they proliferate;
- and
- (b) determining the extent of proliferation of the cells to identify if the compound is an effective agonist.
A process for diagnosing a disease or a susceptibility to a disease related to a mutation in PGF nucleic acid sequence comprising:
- (a) isolating a nucleic acid sequence encoding PGF from a sample derived from a host;
- and
- (b) determining a mutation in the PGF nucleic acid sequence.
