Voltage-locked loop

A DC-DC voltage converter comprising:

• a digital voltage detector sub-circuit that is adapted to receive at least one reference signal and a feedback signal representative of an output DC voltage of the DC-DC converter and output at least one comparison signal representative of a comparison between the feedback signal and the at least one reference signal;
• a loop modulator sub-circuit, communicatively coupled to the digital voltage detector sub-circuit, that is adapted to generate at least one voltage control signal based, at least in part, on the at least one comparison signal;
• a voltage-controlled power sub-circuit, communicatively coupled to the loop modulator sub-circuit, that is adapted to generate the output DC voltage of the DC-DC converter based, at least in part, on the at least one voltage control signal;
• and
• a feedback sub-circuit, communicatively coupled to the voltage-controlled power sub-circuit and the digital voltage detector sub-circuit, that is adapted to receive the output DC voltage of the DC-DC converter and generate the feedback signal.

In a DC-DC voltage converter, a method for generating an output DC voltage, the method comprising:

• receiving an input DC voltage;
• receiving a feedback signal that is representative of the output DC voltage;
• utilizing digital circuitry to generate at least one voltage control signal based, at least in part, on the feedback signal, wherein utilizing digital circuitry to generate at least one voltage control signal comprises:
• utilizing digital circuitry to identify a voltage region of a plurality of voltage regions to which the feedback signal corresponds;
• and
• utilizing digital circuitry to generate the at least one voltage control signal based, at least in part, on the identified voltage region;
• and
• generating the output DC voltage based, at least in part, on the input DC voltage and the at least one voltage control signal.
