Abstract
A cycle direction control which pivotally couples each of the opposed ends of an axle to a corresponding one each of a pair of members which operate in directionally opposed travel to control direction of an annular member which rotates about the axis of the axle.
Claims19
A cycle direction control, comprising:
- a. a pair of members each of which provides a first member end and a second member end;
- b. an axle which provides an axis about which a first annular member rotates between said pair of members;
- c. a pair of pivot elements each of which pivotally join an axle end to one each of said pair of members proximate to said second member end;
- and
- d. at least one direction control element coupled to at least one of said pair of members proximate to a corresponding said first member end, and wherein an amount of travel of said at least one direction control element generates an amount of linear travel of at least one of said pair of members, and wherein said amount of linear travel of said at least one of said pair of members generates an amount of rotation of each said axle end about a corresponding one each pivot element coupled proximate to said second member end to control direction of said first annular member rotatable between said pair of members.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle, comprising the steps of:
- a. generating travel in at least one direction control element coupled to a corresponding one each of a pair of members proximate to a first member end;
- b. generating a linear travel in at least one of said pair of members;
- c. pivoting a pair of axle ends about each of a pair of pivot elements responsive to said linear travel of said at least one of said pair of members;
- d. altering direction of a rotation axis of an axle coupled to said pair of axle ends about which an annular member rotates between said pair of members;
- and
- e. altering direction of travel of said annular member which rotates between said pair of members to control direction of said cycle.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle as described in 11, wherein said step of generating travel in at least one direction control element coupled to a corresponding one each of a pair of members proximate to a first member end comprises the step of generating an opposed reciprocal travel in each of a pair of directional control elements.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle as described in 12, further comprising the step of coordinating said opposed reciprocal travel of said pair of directional control elements to maintain substantially equal measure of said opposed reciprocal travel in each of said pair of directional control elements.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle as described in 13, further comprising the step of slidely engaging a frame element with each of said pair of directional control elements.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle as described in 14, wherein said step of slidely engaging a frame element with each of said pair of directional control elements comprises telescopically engaging said frame element with each of said pair of direction control elements.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle as described in 15, further comprising the steps of:
- a. supporting a bicycle operator on a seat coupled to said frame;
- b. gripping each of said pair of direction control elements with one each of a pair of hands of said bicycle operator;
- and
- c. generating opposed reciprocal travel of said pair of hands of said bicycle operator to generate a corresponding measure of reciprocal travel of said pair of direction control elements.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle as described in 16, further comprising the step of rotating a second annular member between a pair of forks coupled to said frame.
A method of controlling direction of a cycle as described in 17, further comprising the step of operating an annular member rotation generator to generate rotation of said second annular member between said pair of forks coupled to said frame.
A cycle direction control, comprising:
- a. a pair of members each of which provides a first member end and a second member end;
- b. an axle about which an annular member rotates between said pair of members;
- c. a pair of pivot elements each of which pivotally join an axle end proximate to a corresponding one each said second member end;
- d. a pair of member end pivots coupled to a frame about which a corresponding one of said pair of members rotates proximate to said first member end;
- e. a direction control element which operates to generate opposed rotational travel of said pair of members about said pair of member end pivots, and wherein opposed rotational travel of said pair of members about said pair of member end pivots generates an amount of rotation of said axle end about a corresponding one each of said pair of pivot elements to control direction of said annular member between said pair of members.
