Hammer-type stapler tool

A manually-swingable hammer-type stapler for discharging both a disc-shaped plastic cap and a staple which penetrates the cap, comprising:

• an elongate stapling tool including an elongate housing having an elongate staple magazine extending in a lengthwise direction thereof;
• the elongate tool adjacent one end thereof having a striker which is transversely moveable relative to the housing in response to impact of the striker against an external surface;
• the elongate stapling tool adjacent said one end thereof having a staple driving blade movable relative to the striker along a transverse discharge path for discharging a leading staple from said staple magazine when said striker is manually impacted against said external surface;
• the elongate tool adjacent the other end thereof defining a manually engagable grip structure for engagement with a user's hand to permit manual swinging of the tool for impacting said one end thereof against the external surface;
• a cap magazine carried on said housing adjacent said other end of said tool, said cap magazine supporting therein an elongate strip of disc-shaped plastic caps which are disposed in serially adjacent edge-to-edge relationship, the adjacent caps in said strip being serially joined together by a connecting structure;
• a guide structure for guiding a leading end portion of the cap strip from said cap magazine to a position adjacent said one end of said tool so that a leading cap of said strip is positionable in a discharge position adjacent and generally transversely aligned with the leading staple;
• a feeding mechanism, including a manually-engagable trigger member, for withdrawing the leading end portion of the cap strip from the cap magazine and moving the leading end portion of the cap strip along the guide structure so that the leading cap is moved into the discharge position for penetration by the leading staple when the latter is transversely discharged;
• and
• a cutting arrangement located at said one end of said tool for cutting the connecting structure which joins the leading cap to the succeeding cap of the strip when the leading staple is discharged by the driving blade and penetrates the leading cap.

A manually-swingable hammer-type stapler for discharging both a disc-shaped plastic cap and a staple which penetrates the cap upon discharge, comprising:

• an elongate stapling tool including an elongate housing having an elongate staple magazine extending in a lengthwise direction thereof;
• the elongate stapling tool adjacent one end of said housing having a staple driving blade for transversely discharging a leading staple from said staple magazine when said one end of said tool is manually impacted against an external surface;
• said tool adjacent the other end thereof defining an elongate handle part having a manually engagable grip structure for gripping engagement with a user's hand;
• a cap magazine carried on said tool and supporting therein an elongate strip of plastic caps which are serially positioned and joined in adjacent edge-to-edge relationship by plastic edge webs;
• a guide structure for guiding a leading end of the cap strip from said cap magazine to a position adjacent said one end of said tool so that a leading cap in said strip is positionable in a discharge position adjacent and generally transversely aligned with the leading staple;
• a cutting arrangement located at said one end of said tool for cutting the plastic edge web which joins the leading cap to the following cap when the leading staple is discharged by the driving blade and penetrates the leading cap, said cutting arrangement including a pair of opposed and relatively moveable cutting edges which are relatively moved toward one another to sever the plastic edge web joining the leading cap as disposed in the discharge position from the cap strip when the driving blade is activated to discharge the leading staple toward the leading cap so that the leading staple penetrates the leading cap;
• and
• a manually-activated feeding mechanism for withdrawing a free end portion of the cap strip from the cap magazine and moving the end portion of the cap strip along the guide structure so that the leading cap is movable into the discharge position for penetration by the leading staple when the latter is transversely discharged.

A stapling tool for discharging both a disc-shaped plastic cap and a staple which penetrates the cap upon discharge for attachment to a body, comprising:

• an elongate housing having a staple driving structure adjacent one end thereof and a manually grippable handle structure adjacent the other end thereof;
• an elongate staple magazine extending lengthwise along said housing and having a discharge end disposed adjacent said one end of said housing, said staple magazine adjacent the other end thereof being pivotally connected to said housing;
• a guide track extending along a bottom side of said staple magazine;
• a cap magazine attached to said housing adjacent said other end thereof for supporting a cap supply defined by an elongate strip of caps which are serially joined together by a connecting member, a leading end of the cap supply being fed out of said magazine and slidably supported on said guide track;
• a cap feeding mechanism cooperating with the caps on the guide track for slidably displacing the leading cap into a use position wherein the leading cap is aligned with the discharge direction of the leading staple;
• and
• a cutting device cooperating between the staple magazine and said guide track for severing the connecting member which connects the leading cap, when the latter is disposed in said use position, from the next following cap when the driving structure is activated to discharge the leading staple.
