Abstract
The heat exchanger system for extracting heat from waste water comprises a surface area (5, 11, 21) made of copper, of a copper alloy or of a copper compound. The area of these surface areas amounts to solely a fraction of the heat exchanger surface area. In that waste water flows over the surface areas, the formation of a sewer biofilm on the heat exchanger surface is prevented or stopped. Preferably, the surface areas are formed by the surfaces of bands of copper, of a copper alloy or of a copper compound extending essentially in a direction transverse to the direction of flow.

1-10. (canceled)
A heat exchanger system for extracting heat from waste water, the system comprising at least one heat exchanger element shaped to be placed one of in or about a sewer and comprising a heat exchanger surface for being in contact with waste water flowing in the sewer, the system comprising at least one surface portion of at least one of copper, of a copper alloy and of a copper compound, wherein the overall area of the at least one surface portion is smaller than the heat exchanger surface area.
An apparatus for extracting heat from waste water, comprising a heat pump, a circulation system for a heat exchanger liquid medium and a heat exchanger system, the system comprising at least one heat exchanger element shaped to be placed one of in or about a sewer and comprising a heat exchanger surface for being in contact with waste water flowing in the sewer, the system comprising at least one surface portion of at least one of copper, of a copper alloy and of a copper compound, wherein the overall area of the at least one surface portion is smaller than the heat exchanger surface area.
