Abstract
A method of making a fabric composite capable to assuming a desired shape including the steps of forming an interlining fabric (10) containing elastic yarn (15) running longitudinally of the fabric, varying the density of yarn across the width of the interlining to control the longitudinal extensibility across the width, and attaching the interlining to a fabric backing material (12).

A method of making a fabric composite capable of assuming a desired shape including the steps of:
- forming an interlining fabric (10) containing a plurality of elastic threads running longitudinally of the interlining fabric;
- varying the number of elastic threads across a width of the interlining fabric to control the longitudinal extensibility across the width;
- and
- attaching the interlining fabric to a fabric backing material (12).

- shaping the interlining fabric (10) by one of a subsequent tensioning, pressing and steaming operation prior to attaching the interlining fabric to the fabric backing material;
- and
- allowing the fabric composite to relax to a curved waistband shape.
