In particular, the present invention relates to nanoparticle surface treatments and use of nanoparticle surface treatments to reduce the damaging oxidation and corrosion of stainless steel and other alloy components in oxidating and corrosive conditions.
Claims32
A composition comprising a metal treated with a nanoparticle surface treatment, wherein said composition comprises a self-protective oxide coating.
A method of protecting metal, comprising
- a) providing metal treated with a nanoparticle surface treatment;
- and
- b) exposing said treated metal to conditions such that a self-protective oxide coating is formed on said treated metal.
A method of treating a metal, comprising:
- a) providing a metal with a nanoparticle surface treatment comprising an oxide of a rare earth element;
- and
- b) exposing said treated metal to conditions such that a self-protective coating is formed on said treated metal.
