A phage preparation comprising a broad host range isolated phage selected from the Myoviridae family having a genome size of 170 kb and lytic activity against pathogenic E. coli or Salmonella strains, wherein the isolated phage is virulent and safe to administer to a human or animal and wherein the isolated phage is an obligate virulent phage with a contractile tail.
A method of preventing or treating an infection caused by pathogenic Enteriobacteriaceae in humans or animals, the method comprising administering to an individual an effective amount of a phage preparation to prevent or treat the infection in the human or animal, the phage preparation comprising a broad host range isolated phage selected from the Myoviridae family having a genome size of 170 kb and lytic activity against pathogenic E. coli or Salmonella strains, wherein the isolated phage is virulent and safe to administer to a human or animal and wherein the isolated phage is an obligate virulent phage with a contractile tail.
