Abstract
A friction-reducing abrasion resistant bearing material is described. The material comprises a monolithic, porous polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) having dispersed therein a wear-resistant thermosetting or thermoplastic resin material.
Claims2
A method of forming a bearing material comprising:
- providing a porous, monolithic PTFE material;
- imbibing at least a portion of the pores within the PTFE material with at least one polymer resin selected from the group consisting of thermosetting resins and thermoplastic resins;
- curing said at least one polymer resin;
- and
- forming said imbibed PTFE material into a bearing.
