Abstract
A method for implanting an intraocular lens into the eye of a subject includes placing the intraocular lens into the eye of a subject and administering a drug in an amount sufficient to maintain an accommodative state of the eye. The method further includes permitting at least a portion of the intraocular lens to become coupled to at least a portion of the eye while maintaining the eye in the accommodative state. In certain embodiments, the method may include forming an intraocular lens while maintaining an accommodative state of the eye. In such embodiments, the method may exclude permitting at least a portion of the intraocular lens to become coupled to at least a portion of the capsular bag.
Claims27
A method injecting a lens, comprising:
- determining a refractive outcome value suitable for an eye;
- calculating a quantity and a refractive index of a polymerizable fluid to be introduced in a capsular bag of the eye;
- injecting the polymerizable fluid into the capsular bag;
- initiating polymerization of the polymerizable fluid;
- and
- changing the refraction of the eye after initiating polymerization to obtain the refractive outcome.
A method of controlling the refractive value of an eye during an ophthalmic surgery, comprising:
- injecting a polymerizable fluid into a capsular bag of an eye, whereby the capsular bag has a curvature;
- altering the curvature of a capsular bag so as to provide the eye with a predetermined refractive value.
A method of controlling the refractive value of an eye during an ophthalmic surgery when the natural lens is replaced in the capsular bag by a polymerizable fluid, comprising:
- injecting a polymerizable fluid into a capsular bag of an eye;
- subsequently modifying the shape of the capsular bag.
The method of claim 97 wherein the pressure inside the capsular bag is changed to modify the shape of the capsular bag.
A method according to claim 16, wherein the volume of the polymerizable solution is changed to modify the shape of the capsular bag.
A method of restoring the vision of an eye to a predetermined refractive value, comprising:
- introducing a polymerizable fluid into the capsular bag of the eye from which the natural lens has been removed;
- changing the refractive value of the eye before polymerizing the fluid into the intraocular lens;
- and
- thereafter polymerizing the fluid into an intraocular lens implant to provide a predetermined refractive value of the eye.
