Abstract
Among other things, the present invention provides various apparatus useful in paper manufacturing and recycling. On such apparatus is a paper strap that includes a paper body that is formed of a compound structure. Such a paper strap further includes an adhesive material formed on at least a portion of the paper body. Methods for using the paper strap include methods related to recycling paper products, methods for sealing cartons, and methods for manufacturing paper products.
Claims20
A method of manufacturing a paper band, the method comprising:
- making a substantially planar multi-layer paper web by applying an adhesive material between a first paper web layer and a second paper web layer, wherein the first paper web layer is attached to the second paper web layer by an intervening binding layer composed at least in part by the adhesive material;
- and
- slitting the substantially planar multi-layer paper web into a plurality of elongated paper bands, wherein slitting the multi-layer paper web creates opposing edges on each of the elongated paper straps, wherein the intervening binding layer is exposed at the edges.
An elongated paper band, the paper band comprising:
- a multi-layer paper body, wherein a length of the multi-layer paper body is substantially greater than a width of the multi-layer paper body, wherein the multi-layered paper body includes a first edge extending the length of the multi-layer paper body and a second edge extending the length of the multi-layer paper body substantially opposite that of the first edge, and wherein the multi-layer paper body includes:
- a first paper strip;
- a second paper strip;
- a third paper strip;
- a first binder layer, wherein the first binder layer is disposed between the first paper strip and the second paper strip, and wherein the first binder layer attaches the first paper strip to the second paper strip;
- and
- a second binder layer, wherein the second binder layer is disposed between the second paper strip and the third paper strip, and wherein the second binder layer attaches the second paper strip to the third paper strip;
- and
- wherein the first paper strip, the second paper strip, the third paper strip, the first binder layer and the second binder layer are exposed along at least the first edge.
A method for manufacturing paper products, the method comprising:
- providing a plurality of pulp bales;
- bundling the plurality of pulp bales using a paper strap, wherein the paper strap includes:
- a multi-layer paper body, wherein a length of the multi-layer paper body is substantially greater than a width of the multi-layer paper body, wherein the multi-layered paper body includes a first edge extending the length of the multi-layer paper body and a second edge extending the length of the multi-layer paper body substantially opposite that of the first edge, and wherein the multi-layer paper body includes:
- a first paper strip;
- a second paper strip;
- a third paper strip;
- a first binder layer, wherein the first binder layer is disposed between the first paper strip and the second paper strip, and wherein the first binder layer attaches the first paper strip to the second paper strip;
- and
- a second binder layer, wherein the second binder layer is disposed between the second paper strip and the third paper strip, and wherein the second binder layer attaches the second paper strip to the third paper strip;
- and
- wherein the first paper strip, the second paper strip, the third paper strip, the first binder layer and the second binder layer are exposed along at least the first edge.
