Abstract
Disclosed is an absorbent article having a distribution member comprising non-biopersistent inorganic vitreous microfibers. The microfibers: have an average effective diameter between about 0.1 micron and about 6 microns; are in a fibrous assembly having a basis weight between about 40 g/m2 and about 350 g/m2; and have a density between about 0.04 g/m3 and about 0.25 g/m3. In preferred embodiments the fibrous assembly can vertically wick a 0.9% saline solution to a height of 5 cm in less than about 5 minutes.
Claims20
A disposable absorbent article comprising a fluid permeable topsheet, an opposed backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between said topsheet and said backsheet and having a crotch region a front waist region and a rear waist region, said absorbent core comprising a superabsorbent polymer and non-biopersistent inorganic vitreous microfibers.
An absorbent article according to claim 5 wherein said removable/replaceable core component comprises a distribution member comprising said non-biopersistent inorganic vitreous microfibers.
A fluid distribution member for a disposable absorbent article, said member comprising non-biopersistent inorganic vitreous microfibers.
A method of distributing an aqueous liquid in a disposable absorbent article, said method comprising the steps of:
- a) providing said disposable absorbent article wherein said disposable absorbent article comprises a superabsorbent polymer and a distribution member wherein said distribution member comprises non-biopersistent inorganic vitreous microfibers;
- and
- b) exposing said disposable absorbent article to an aqueous liquid.
