Abstract
Highly-deformable sealing strips integrating with fabric assemblies (principally of airbags) are detailed. The strips reduce gas leakage from occurring. They also function as mechanical reinforcements of the assemblies.
Claims15
A strip for sealing and reinforcing a joint of an airbag comprising:
- a. a material highly deformable in the weft direction, not substantially deformable in the warp direction, and having first and second sides;
- and
- b. silicone elastomer coated onto at least one of the first and second sides.
An airbag comprising:
- a. a first panel;
- b. a second panel;
- and
- c. a strip joining the first and second panels and comprising:
- i. a material highly deformable in the weft direction, not substantially deformable in the warp direction, and having first and second sides;
- and
- ii. silicone elastomer coated onto at least one of the first and second sides.

A method of making an airbag comprising:
- a. forming a strip comprising a material highly deformable in the weft direction, not substantially deformable in the warp direction, and having first and second sides;
- b. coating silicone elastomer onto at least one of the first and second sides;
- c. placing the strip in contact with an airbag panel;
- and
- d. bonding the strip to the panel by vulcanization.
