Abstract
An automated banking machine (10) includes at least one of sheet dispensing mechanisms (34, 36, 38, 40, 210). Each sheet dispensing mechanism includes a picking member (72, 212). The picking member rotates, and with each rotation generally causes an end note to be picked from a stack (42, 264) of sheets. The picking member (212) includes an arcuate projecting portion (258) that reduces the risk of damage to the leading edge areas of sheets due to opposed picking and stripping forces.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- (a) operating a picking member during a note picking operation to cause initial picking movement of a currency note away from a stack of currency notes in an automated teller machine (ATM) having a currency note dispenser being operative to dispense currency notes from the ATM;
- (b) rotating a disk of the picking member about an axis to engage the currency note at a transverse outer surface portion of the disk, wherein a transverse segment of the currency note is simultaneously engaged with both a low friction segment and a high friction segment of the outer surface portion, wherein the low friction segment is positioned axially adjacent to the high friction segment, and wherein the low friction segment extends outward further than the high friction segment in a direction radial to the axis;
- and
- (c) rotating the disk to disengage the currency note from the outer surface portion.
A method comprising:
- (a) rotating a picking member disk about an axis to engage and pick a currency end note from a stack of currency notes in an automated teller machine (ATM) having a currency note dispenser operative to dispense currency notes from the ATM, including engaging the end note at a transverse outer surface portion of the disk with a transverse segment of the end note simultaneously engaged with both a low friction segment and a high friction segment of the surface portion, wherein the low friction segment is positioned axially adjacent to the high friction segment, and wherein the low friction segment extends outward further than the high friction segment in a direction radial to the axis;
- and
- (b) rotating the picking member disk to disengage the end note from the picking member disk.
A method comprising:
- (a) engaging an end sheet bounding a stack of sheets in an automated banking machine with a high friction picker surface rotatable about an axis, wherein the high friction picker surface engages a first side of the end sheet;
- (b) moving the high friction picker surface to urge the end sheet to move along a first direction while in engagement with a stripping surface, wherein the stripping surface acts on a leading edge area of the end sheet in a stripping area, acts on a second side of the end sheet opposed of the first side, resists movement of the end sheet from the stack, and generally prevents sheets other than the end sheet from moving from the stack and between the high friction picker surface and the stripping surface;
- and
- (c) during at least a portion of (b), engaging the end sheet with a projecting surface that is axially adjacent to the high friction picker surface relative to the axis, radially adjacent to the high friction picker surface in a radial direction from the axis, and radially outward of the high friction picker surface in the radial direction, wherein deformation of the end sheet along the first direction by the stripping surface is minimized by engagement of the sheet with the projecting surface.
