Out-of-band platform initialization

An article comprising:

• a machine accessible medium having a plurality of machine accessible instructions,
• wherein when the instructions are executed, the instructions provide for:
• initializing an out-of-band controller;
• attempting to retrieve at least a portion of the low level device configuration information from the remote server;
• if successful, attempting to configure the device utilizing the low level device configuration information:
• initializing the device;
• and
• booting the operating system.

A method comprising:

• detecting that an error has occurred;
• determining whether or not the error is a type typically handled by firmware;
• if so, contacting, via an out-of-band network, an error handling server that is expected to include logic to handle the error;
• and
• retrieving the error handling logic from the server.

An article comprising:

• a machine accessible medium having a plurality of machine accessible instructions,
• wherein when the instructions are executed, the instructions provide for:
• detecting that an error has occurred;
• determining whether or not the error is a type typically handled by firmware;
• if so, contacting, via an out-of-band network, an error handling server that is expected to include logic to handle the error;
• and
• retrieving the error handling logic from the server.

An apparatus comprising:

• a plurality of hardware components;
• and
• an out-of-band controller capable of:
• attempting to retrieve at least a portion of the low level device configuration information from a remote server;
• if successful, attempting to configure the plurality of hardware components utilizing the low level device configuration information:
• initializing the plurality of hardware components.

A system comprising:

• a configuration server capable of storing low level device configuration information;
• and
• a device including:
• a plurality of hardware components;
• and
• an out-of-band controller capable of:
• attempting to retrieve at least a portion of the low level device configuration information from the configuration server;
• if successful, attempting to configure the plurality of hardware components utilizing the low level device configuration information:
• initializing the plurality of hardware components.
